BANYAN (FICUS BENGHALENSIS)
Banyan, (Ficus benghalensis), also called Indian banyan or banyan fig, unusually shaped tree of the mulberry family (Moraceae) native to the Indian subcontinent. The banyan reaches a height up to 30 metres (100 feet) and spreads laterally indefinitely. The banyan is the national tree of India.
The banyan tree has been used for many medicinal purposes from ancient times. Its bark and leaves both possess analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. The bark of the Banyan tree is considered useful in burning sensation, ulcers, and painful skin diseases. It can also be used in inflammation and toothache.
Medicinal uses :
The Banyan tree also has several medicinal properties. Its leaf, bark, seeds and fig are used for the variety of disorders like diarrhea, polyuria, dental, diabetes and urine disorders. They can also be taken internally to cure diarrhoea and dysentery.
