The polyphenol ellagic acid (4) is the major constituent of the flowers and leaves of the plant Woodfordia fruticosa (Nair et al., 1976), used in traditional medicine for bowel complaint, rheumatism, dysentery, diarrhea, ulcer, and infections
Woodfordia fruticosa is a wonderful medicinal herb commonly known as Dhataki. It is powerful astringment.
